Wine cap mushrooms typically appear when soil temperatures are between 13 to 18°C (55°F to 65°F). For the best taste, it's ideal to harvest them before the cap fully opens. Once the mushrooms are overripe, their veils break, their caps become large, faded, and cracked, and their stems may turn yellow. As they age, they are also more likely to attract pests, which reduces their quality. A helpful tip: when preparing them in the kitchen, keep the trimmed stem butts. You can plant these outside to grow more wine cap mushrooms.
Find the right location. As you can imagine, a shady spot in your garden may be the best location for the Wine Cap bed. It will help in maintaining moisture with minimal watering required. Search for spots underneath the trees, beside north-facing walls, or in mulched garden areas.
Our liquid cultures are freshly extracted from our master jar, which is routinely tested to ensure purity, guaranteeing that only the desired mycelium is present. We stand by the quality of our cultures, offering exchanges if any contamination is detected.
A Liquid Culture (LC for short) is live mushroom mycelium suspended in nutritious liquid medium. It can be stored at room temp for 1 month or in the fridge for up to a year and sometimes longer. But best if used within a short time after receiving.
