About Urban Fungi
Urban Fungi was born from a simple yet profound realization: instead of going out into the forest to witness the beauty of mushrooms, why not bring that magic into our homes and urban spaces? Our journey began with a love for exploring forests, discovering the mushrooms in their natural habitats. This passion sparked a vision to bring the beauty and benefits of mushrooms closer to people, transforming urban spaces into thriving micro-ecosystems.
At Urban Fungi, we believe that anyone can grow and enjoy mushrooms, whether in their home, on a balcony, or in community gardens. Our mission is to reconnect people with nature by making mushroom cultivation accessible, sustainable, and fun. Through innovative products and resources, we are empowering individuals and urban communities to explore the versatile world of mushrooms, contributing to a greener and healthier future.

Raul Purge - Founder
My journey with mushrooms began with a simple desire: to enjoy the freshest mushrooms possible and the curiosity to grow them myself. Seeing tired-looking oyster mushrooms on store shelves and browsing through mushroom powders imported from China made me pause and think – why not take control and try growing mushrooms on my own? What started as a small home experiment quickly blossomed into a full-time passion.
Soon, my basement shelves were brimming with a fascinating variety of mushroom species, many with names that initially felt like a tongue twister. Culinary favorites like Shimeji, Shiitake, and Maitake joined my personal favorite, Lion’s Mane, which emerged from sawdust like a fluffy snowball. And let’s not forget the vibrant Pink Oyster mushroom, with its delicate fruiting bodies resembling pig ears and a flavor reminiscent of crispy fried bacon. Each new mushroom variety brought its own challenges and delights, making every step of the journey even more captivating.
Today, my mission is to share the incredible diversity and magic of mushrooms with an ever-growing community. By providing the knowledge and tools needed, I aim to make mushroom cultivation accessible and rewarding for everyone, allowing you to discover and experience this extraordinary part of nature firsthand.
